Here's what we were working with - an old, worn-down deck that had seen better days. Unsafe structure, no protection from the elements, and definitely not a space anyone wanted to spend time in. The homeowner wanted something completely different. Something they could actually use year-round.
We tore out the old deck and built everything fresh. New pressure-treated framing, Trex composite decking, and sturdy black metal railing panels all the way around. Trex is a big deal for anyone tired of sanding, staining, and resealing wood every year. It holds up against moisture, heat, and heavy foot traffic without the constant upkeep.
The real game-changer on this one was the insulated aluminum roof cover. We installed it across the full span of the deck, tied into the house, and set it up with a ceiling fan and recessed lighting underneath. That combination - shade, airflow, and light - is what takes an outdoor space from occasionally usable to genuinely comfortable no matter the weather.
We also ran a proper downspout off the roof to handle water drainage. That's the kind of detail that protects the structure long-term and keeps water from pooling around the base of the deck. Every piece of this build was done with the long game in mind.
The end result is a backyard space that's actually ready to be used. Guests, cookouts, quiet evenings - this deck handles all of it. And because of how it was built, the homeowner won't be thinking about repairs or replacements anytime soon.
