This Simpsonville backyard was a blank slate - some grass, a shed sitting in the corner, and a whole lot of untapped potential. The homeowner wanted a real outdoor space, not just a patch of yard. So we got to work on a full custom build that ties everything together.
The centerpiece is a 16x16 Trex composite deck off the back of the house. We used a rich brown composite board with a clean border detail running the perimeter - it gives the whole surface a finished, intentional look that you just don't get with pressure-treated wood. Composite was the right call here. No annual staining, no splintering, and it holds up to the South Carolina heat without warping.
We also poured a concrete patio right alongside the deck, giving the space two distinct zones - one for lounging on the deck, one for the patio furniture setup nearby. The two surfaces flow together naturally with a step transition between them. It's the kind of layout that makes a backyard actually usable day to day.
The shed got some attention too. We built out skirting around the base and added a proper ramp in front of the doors. Clean, functional, and it looks like it belongs rather than just sitting there as an afterthought. Those smaller details are what separate a well-planned backyard from one that feels cobbled together.
And here's the thing - this space isn't even done yet. There's more coming. What you're seeing is already a solid foundation, but the full layout is still taking shape. When it's all said and done, this backyard is going to be built for everyday living.
