This one in Travelers Rest is getting close, and we're excited about how it's coming together. The homeowners wanted a space that actually works - somewhere to fire up the grill, sit outside without baking in the sun, and just enjoy the backyard. That's exactly what we've been building.
The covered section is what really ties this whole thing together. Those square columns support a clean, flat roof structure that gives you real shade without feeling cramped. It creates a defined outdoor room right off the back door - the kind of space you actually use every day, not just on special occasions.
We went with composite decking in a gray-tone finish throughout. Low maintenance, holds up well to weather, and it looks sharp against the black aluminum railing system we ran along the full perimeter. That railing isn't just there for safety - the consistent color and clean lines give the whole build a finished, put-together look that wood railing rarely achieves without regular upkeep.
The staircase wraps down with matching composite treads and railing, keeping everything cohesive from top to bottom. There are still a few finishing touches left before we call this one done, but the bones are all there. Final photos are on the way.
Custom deck design and build is a big investment, and details like these - the covered section, the railing choice, the material selection - are where the difference gets made. We take that seriously on every job we do in the Upstate.
